The area is known for its student demographic due to its close proximity to the countless universities in Nova Scotia's capital and the abundant supply of wood-paneled houses available for rent. Nevertheless, families of children and adults mix well into the area, as it is known to be a pleasant, safe and affordable place to reside.

Dalhousie University, St. Mary's Univeristy, King's College and NASCAD are just a few reasons why  young adults have inhabit the neighbourhood. The youthful population is definitely tangible. But that has yet to scare away families and older adults from sharing the South End space. Students are respectful of family space, making the South End a safe haven to raise children and grow old.

As a student-based neighbourhood, the overall vibe of the area shifts from season to season.
