What to Expect

Manotick is a community in Rideau Goulbourn ward in the rural south part of the City of Ottawa. It is a suburb of the city located on the Rideau River south of Barrhaven and Riverside South. Founded in the mid 1800’s, the name Manotick is Ojibway for “island in the river”. While Manotick is often viewed as a bedroom community for Ottawa which it joined in 2001, this vibrant village still retains its rural character and historic nature with over seventy heritage buildings. Dickinson Square Conservation Area encompasses Watson's Mill (one of the few grist mills still operating in North America), the F.E Ayers Building and Dickinson House. An annual festival called Dickinson Days, celebrates the founder of Manotick, Moss Kent Dickinson. With its location on the river, Manotick is also a boater’s haven and many homes have private waterfront access. The opening of the Standherd-Armstrong Bridge north of Manotick has markedly eased traffic congestion in the village.

Demographics

Manotick is home to a prosperous, well-educated community, with many older couples and retirees who live in single, detached homes. Development of multi-units such as apartments and semi-detached homes is on the rise. The population of Manotick is just over 5,700. There are two elementary schools in Manotick and one high school.
