One of Toronto's Newest residential neighborhoods, Fort York has grown since the mid aughts. From one or two stand alone buildings it has developed into a densely populated, high rise condo community. In relative proximity to downtown, this area has many advantages. You can keep your car and find accessible routes on the Lakeshore and Gardiner expressway. You could also choose the TTC, it runs along the Lakeshore and up Bathurst. Many still choose to walk into downtown but it does take a little time. This is another area where with the development, art installations were given a primary role in the streetscape. Street life and street side shopping have yet to take hold. Most residents find shopping along the Queens Quay or venture north into downtown. The Lakeshore offers vast recreation areas and a June Callwood Park is a unique and modern urban recreation zone.

Demographics

Like many neighborhoods in this area, the Fort York population is dominated by working age individuals. They are comprised of mostly 24 to 39 yr olds. With a high percentage of single owner/occupiers, almost the entire population lives in high rise buildings. There are a few mid rise buildings but no stand alone dwellings.
