The larger area known as Moss Park includes the neighborhoods of Corktown and Cabbagetown. These areas have already undergone revitalization, with young urban professionals flooding the area and services and shops moving in. The area concentrated around the Moss Park Public Housing remains one of the poorer neighborhoods in Toronto. It houses the Salvation Army Shelter and the densely occupied buildings are rented to many of Toronto’s low income citizens. In just minutes, the King or Queen streetcar will deliver residents right into the core for work or play.

Moss Park, as expected, has mostly working age citizens from the ages of 24 to 39. There are very few young children in the area. In fact, there are almost 50% fewer small children in the area than the rest of Toronto. There are also fewer seniors but with an increased number who live alone compared to other parts of the city. Most people in this area, regardless of age, are single and living alone. With the Moss Park Public Housing and the new condo developments, the homes in the area are dominated by high rise buildings. Most people speak English but there are a number of Spanish and Cantonese speakers as well. The average income is $53,000 owing to the mix of low income households with those in the revitalized buildings.

The greater area of Moss Park has a lot on offer. Day to day life can include a mix of activities, access to shops and services and great recreation facilities. There are many affordable restaurants that are individually owned and a selection of brand name chains you already know and trust. Outside of the small stretch of Queen E near Parliament, the streets are filled with street level shopping and a vibrant daily street life exist in the area. Local artisans and entrepreneurs are setting up shop and enticing people to shop in the neighborhood. There is equal opportunity to enjoy the shops in the core with easy transportation on the King and Queen streetcars, that will take you into downtown and connect to the subway in minutes.
