What to Expect

Vaughan is a city located in the Regional Municipality of York, just north of Toronto. The township was named after Benjamin Vaughan, a British commissioner who signed a peace treaty with the United States in 1783. Vaughan is made up of five major communities. Most residents identify more with these smaller communities than they do with the city as a whole.

Demographics

Vaughan was the fastest-growing municipality in Canada between 1996 and 2006, achieving a population growth rate of 80.2%. It is the fifth-largest city in the Greater Toronto Area and the 17th-largest city in Canada. Vaughan is known as having some of the highest concentrations of southern Europeans, Eastern Europeans and Jewish people in Ontario. Visible minorities make up 35.4% of the population.

Split into five communities, not only is Vaughan a cultural melting pot, it is also filled with things to do. Vaughan offers a wide variety of community services, great schools, museums, shopping centers, community assistance and recreation programs.

The 133-hectare amusement park is split into six different areas, one of which is an eight-hectare waterpark. Vaughan has an organization running a league for each of the four major sports; baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey. The city is home to numerous golf and country clubs, including The National Golf Club of Canada, one of Canada's highest ranking golf clubs.
